SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — The DESK organization presented San Angelo ISD school faculty with over $72,000 in August to address the school supplies needs of district students, according to SAISD .

DESK, which stands for “Donate Educational Supplies to Kids,” donated a total of $72,028.36 to the district following its annual back-to-school convocation in August to support the SAISD students and families in need of school supplies. The money was “allocated out to each SAISD campus based on need,” as per the district.

“It was a great opportunity for DESK to present each school’s check to not only the principals but to each school’s entire staff who were riding their bus for Convocation,” DESK Vice President Vicki Loso said. “The energy was amazing, and it also gave us an opportunity to thank each group for what they do for the students in San Angelo.”

The funds were raised throughout the year through a variety of methods, including school supply drives, fundraisers, a golf tournament, an online silent auction, participation in May’s San Angelo Gives online giving event and a Christmas decoration sale. Local organizations, foundations, churches and community members also contributed to the cause.

“It is very heart-warming to know so many students and parents have one less thing to worry about when we are able to help them with their necessary supplies without having to go through a difficult process,” Loso said.

Founded in 2004 after local resident and entrepreneur Eric Wilson identified an unmet need to assist SAISD students in obtaining school supplies, DESK has operated in San Angelo for 21 years as part of its mission “to ensure all SAISD students have the  necessary school supplies to facilitate learning.”

“SAISD principals and staff acknowledge the meaningful contribution by DESK for their schools and have shared stories about how the organization helps families in need while also supporting teachers who might otherwise feel compelled to provide those supplies themselves,” SAISD said.
