KIRTLAND, N.M. (KRQE) – Facing charges for double murder, he wasn’t about to surrender peacefully. Video showed the chaotic scene where federal agents and New Mexico police dodged gunfire trying to make an arrest. That scene unfolded just a few weeks ago outside Farmington and police body cameras captured officers’ reactions as they faced over a dozen gunshots from a 21-year-old suspect.

It was just one day after two people were found shot to death inside a Bloomfield home two weeks ago. Officers, deputies, and federal agents from the San Juan County area were telling each other they were not hit after tracking two suspects to a mobile home park in nearby Kirtland. They were looking for 21-year-olds Isaiah Brown and Ravyn Burns . Brown was armed with a gun while Burns was unarmed.

Officer: “I’m good bro, he keeps popping out and pointing the gun at me.”
Officer 2: “He was using the female kinda as a shield. She was in front of him and he was putting the pistol around taking shots off.”

Two San Juan deputies and three Farmington police officers fired back.

Officer 2: “They are gonna go, they are coming out that backside.”
    Officer: “Oh wait, are they?”
Officer 2: “Female is coming out the back!”

Both suspects eventually ran out from different areas of the now-on-fire mobile home. Officers surrounded both sides of the home with Brown running towards officers before veering off and officers fired.

Video then showed deputies creeping towards where they think Brown fell, shields up, and smoke from the fire filling the air. That’s when they spotted Brown on his back and a few feet away, Burns hiding in the bushes.

Deputy: “Drag him out, just drag him, drag him.”
Deputy 2: “Put your hands up!”

The pair was taken into custody with Brown wounded from police gunfire. Brown is facing two counts of second degree murder. Court records show he has yet to face a judge on the charges.

Brown’s alleged accomplice, Burns, is facing charges connected to the murders including evidence tampering, and resisting arrest. She is still being held in the San Juan County jail.
