Waco, TX ( FOX 44 ) — With elections just 50 days away, McLennan County is gearing up for National Voter Registration Day tomorrow.

“Here in Waco, the Project Vier Coalition leads National Voter Registration Day. We have numerous organizations coming together to set up registration tables across the county,” said Dr. Peaches Henry, President of the McLennan County NAACP.

Residents can expect to see registration drives at various locations including Waco Family Medicine, McLennan Community College, Baylor University, and local barbershops.

The initiative will span Waco’s own Voter Registration Week to ensure broad community participation.

Henry stressed the importance of every election, from presidential races to local school board contests. “Every election, from the president down to the school board, is crucial because these are the individuals who make decisions impacting your daily life,” she explained.

A major focus this year is engaging young adults.

Caroline Rice, President of the Waco Youth Council, shared her concerns about her peers’ enthusiasm.

“Voting is a way to decide who wins the election. One vote might not seem significant, but many young people today feel their vote doesn’t matter,” Rice said.

Conversely, Zamya Sumling, a senior at Baylor University, believes strongly in the power of the youth vote.

“It’s important for our age group to vote because we have a significant influence on the world right now. Our voices and opinions matter,” Sumling added.

It is also crucial to note that many individuals have been removed from the Texas voter database, making it essential to confirm and update their registration status. Getting registered to vote is a quick and easy process, and local resources are available to assist.

With efforts intensifying, McLennan County residents are encouraged by community leaders to take part in National Voter Registration Day and ensure they are prepared for the upcoming elections.

If you would like to register to vote there will be events at Mclennan County Community College tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Michaelis Academic Center as well as Baylor University from 2 p.m. to 3:15 at the sub. You can also register to vote at both the Mclennan County democratic and republican party offices.
