BRYAN, Texas ( FOX 44 ) – A Houston man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for violating his felony probation for a domestic violence aggravated assault.

The Brazos County District Attorney’s Office said 37-year-old Anthony Jamahl Lister was sentenced on Tuesday.

While Lister was still on probation in January 2023, he assaulted, strangled and threatened to shoot another domestic violence victim. This offense occurred when Lister got upset at the result of a football game. The victim ran out of their home with their child and contacted Houston Police.

The domestic violence assault in Houston was prosecuted by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Lister pled guilty in Harris County and was sentenced to two years in prison.

Because the Houston offense occurred while Lister was still on probation in Brazos County, a motion to provoke his probation was filed. The Brazos County District Attorney’s Office prosecuted the motion to revoke Lister’s probation.

The Brazos County D.A.’s Office said Lister faced a potential maximum sentence of ten years in prison for violating his Brazos County probation. Instead of proceeding to a contested hearing, Lister accepted an agreed sentence of eight years in prison.

The victim of the Brazos County domestic violence assault, who suffered serious injury which the D.A.’s Office says continues to affect her today, delivered a powerful victim impact statement in court to Lister at the conclusion of his sentencing. She was also joined and supported in the courtroom by many friends, co-workers and family members as she delivered her remarks.

The Brazos County D.A.’s Office said it would like to thank all members of the College Station Police Department who assisted in the investigation, arrest and prosecution of Lister as well as all members of the police department who have provided support to the victim in the years since the offense.
