Teen gets $100K bond for hitting cyclist with car, leaves scene to clock in at McDonald’s

MISSION, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — A teenager was arraigned in Mission, Texas, for allegedly striking a bicyclist Monday and fleeing the scene to work her shift at McDonald’s, authorities say.

Evelyn Rodriguez Hernandez, 18, is charged with an accident involving serious bodily injury, a third-degree felony punishable by up to two to 10 years.

On Monday, Hernandez was driving to work her shift at the McDonald’s located on Conway and Eastbound Frontage Road when she struck a cyclist under the Conway underpass, witnesses say.

Witnesses called police to report the cyclist had severe injuries and that the driver, Hernandez, had fled the scene.

After a brief investigation, police discovered that Hernandez was an employee at the nearby McDonald’s.

Witnesses of the crash were able to give a description of Hernandez’s car, which police tracked down at the McDonald’s. Once inside they found her working her shift and placed her under arrest.

Hernandez’s bond is set at $100,000.

The victim of the crash is in stable condition and suffered injuries to his ribs, according to Mission police.

“If you are involved in an accident, do not leave the scene. Yu have to stay there,” Mission police said. “The worst thing you can do is leave the scene.”
