WACO, Texas ( FOX 44 ) — The sixth annual African-American Preaching Conference began at Truett Seminary on Tuesday, bringing together church leaders and pastors nationwide for a transformative three-day experience focused on worship, religious growth and networking.

“This conference is such a big deal. It’s been a powerful and wonderful experience that we’ve had for the last five years,” said Jared E. Alcantara, director of the Kyle Lake Center for Effective Preaching. “Now in its sixth year, we’re excited to see participants from all over the country.”

This year’s theme, “The Rhythm, Reach, and Civic Power of the Sacred Pulpit,” highlights the significant impact of preaching within African American churches.

The conference aims to empower aspiring and active preachers to engage a diverse world for the gospel’s sake.

The opening sermon was delivered by Reverend A.B. Sutton, Jr., pastor of Living Stones Temple in Birmingham, Alabama. In his message titled “Cancerous Competition,” he addressed the historical challenges faced by the Black community, stating, “We have endured the horrors of slavery, the transition of Reconstruction, Jim Crow, to the present. All of the challenges that we have had to endure as a people, the Black church has been integral to our survival.”

Attendee Tyshawn Gardner remarked on the event’s atmosphere, saying, “There’s a very festive spirit in this place. Black preaching is a communal act of proclamation, and it’s great to be a part of it.”

Over the next three days, participants will hear from nine premier preachers and engage in workshops led by eight experienced facilitators. The conference promises to be a rich opportunity for learning and fellowship among members of the Black church community.

Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God,critic, but you do not have the answer? Where is the path to the source of Light. The Lord is my Light and my Salvation so why should I be afraid. For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can Trust everything he does.Byr the Lord,s plan stand Firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. We put our hope in the Lord.He is our help and shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his Holy name.Let your unfailing love surround us,Lord, for our hope is in you alone.
