SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — San Angelo City Attorney Theresa James has announced that she is resigning from her role and has accepted a new position at the City of Forth Worth. We spoke with her about her years of service and what happens next.

According to James, her resignation will go into effect on Oct. 11. Afterward, she will take up a new position with the City of Fort Worth as a deputy city attorney.

“I’ll be managing the governmental relations function, which involves legislative advocacy and administrative advocacy for the City at both the state level and the governmental level,” James said. “I will not be the lead of the City Attorney’s Office, but I’ll be one of at least three deputy city attorneys, and then the remainder of the City Attorney’s Office falls underneath those deputies.”

James stated that the decision to take up the new position was inspired by the opportunities that Fort Worth’s size can offer.

“Fort Worth is the 12th largest city in the country,” James said. “Being able to work and do the kind of work that I do at that level is definitely a step up for me.”

James has worked for the City of San Angelo for just over nine years. During this time, she aided the City in its approach to projects, challenges, crises and more.

“We did some really exciting projects in my time here,” James said. “Lots of very important and big things have happened in the last nine years.”

Reflecting on her experience, James stated that what she will perhaps miss most are the people she’s come to work with over the years.

“My staff is like my work family, for real, and I will miss them,” James said. “I’ll also miss a lot of the directors and the managers that I work with on a daily basis … There’s just so many people that I will look fondly on, remembering them, but also miss them when I’m gone.”

Though she’s leaving San Angelo, James hopes that she has left a lasting impact on the town and its people while she worked for the City.

“I think it’s been an honor to serve them,” James said. “I like to believe that I’ve worked with a number of people to make a difference not only for them currently but also into the future. I wish everybody here well, and I look forward to coming back and visiting and seeing all the new experiences they’re going to have here.”
