    ASU to host free “Latin Jazz” concert

    SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) —Angelo State University’s Jazz Ensembles program will host its first fall season concert on Oct. 4.

    According to a press release from ASU, the concert is free and open to the public featuring ASU’s top jazz musicians, ASU Big Band and special guest vocalist Tennley Wilson, an ASU vocal/music major. Attendees can expect to hear a fusion of mambo, salsa, samba, bossa nova and other pieces that highlight jazz with Latin rhythms.

    Directed by the assistant director of bands Dr. Trent Shuey, the ASU Big Band boasts 20 student musicians performing on tubas, trombones, trumpets, saxophones and a full rhythm section as an element of the ASU Jazz Ensembles program. Additionally, the program covers various styles including hip-hop, free jazz and bebop.

    The concert will be held at the Brooks & Bates Theatre at the San Angelo Performing Arts Center, located downtown at 82 Gillis St., and will start at 7 p.m.
