WACO, Texas ( FOX 44 ) — The Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce held its annual luncheon on Thursday, bringing together community leaders and residents to discuss key issues impacting local businesses and the broader community.

County Judge Scott Felton delivered the State of the County address, emphasizing the importance of economic development in McLennan County.

“Economic development is the most important thing of many important things that we work on because that helps us bring in high-quality jobs,” Felton stated, highlighting efforts to expand the county and partner with high-tech companies.

Mayor Jim Holmes followed with the State of the City address, showcasing Waco’s significant growth.

“Thirty new businesses have come to town, with over $3.5 billion in investment and 4,300 new jobs,” he said.

Holmes noted that these developments are crucial for expanding the city’s tax base and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

He expressed enthusiasm for the improvements set to unfold by 2026, including a new STEAM center aimed at educating youth and a river walk project designed to boost local employment and recreational opportunities.

The audience, comprised of city officials, community leaders, and engaged residents, actively participated in a panel discussion addressing pressing concerns such as water usage, workforce development, and the significance of regional partnerships.

Resident Christine Smith reflected on the luncheon, stating, “Waco is ready for things to go well, and they’ve got open arms. There were so many facts that I’m just so much better informed.”

As community leaders laid out their vision for the future, attendees left the luncheon feeling more educated and engaged about the issues affecting Waco and McLennan County. Mayor Holmes reiterated the belief in Waco’s potential, a sentiment echoed by many participants, as the city and county work together to build a brighter future.
