Governor Greg Abbott visits TSTC

Waco, TX (FOX 44) – Governor Greg Abbott is in Waco today to celebrate Manufacturing Day at TSTC.

The first Friday of every October is dedicated to recognizing the success of Texas manufacturers and the strength of Texas` job training programs.

Governor Abbott says manufacturing in Texas matters. There are over 20,000 manufacturers in our state employing 925,000 Texans. He adds the need to expand the manufacturing workforce has never been more pressing–and programs at TSTC are ready to meet the demand.

“I always tell {manufacturing CEOs} about the unique programs that Texas State Technical College provides. Say if you’re creating a widget, you have to go through processes A, B, and C. Texas State Technical College can train a student to do that, and they will come ready to go to work for you with batteries in hand. That’s paid for by the state of Texas, not through the employer,” says Abbott.

He adds he’s focused on inspiring the next generation of professionals.
