CHICAGO — Her name is Angelina Victoria — an amazing singer, dancer and all-around performer. She’s spent years in Chicago working to become the city’s next big music sensation.

Victoria knew from a very early age she wanted to pursue music.

“At the age of six, I started getting into vocal technique studying opera, musical theater, pop, rock,” Victoria told WGN News’ Dan Ponce.

16 years later at the age of 22, after years of hard work in the City of Chicago, she said she’s ready to take her career to the next level. Signed to the mega label Warner Music, her songs will soon be syndicated across the air waves of the United States and Mexico.

Victoria’s album is in Spanish, but she sings just as well in English — just like her idol, Selena , one of the most popular Mexican American music artists of all time.

“I really love Selena because she was the first Mexican American singer that I saw,” Victoria said. “I could just really relate to her and her style of music, and her style fashion wise, her attitude and positive energy.”

A part of that love and respect for Selena led Victoria to headline a recent tribute concert in memoriam of her in Grant Park.

“It was just so crazy seeing over 14,000 people in the audience loving Selena and the tribute I got to do for her,” Victoria said.

Victoria’s parents are also her managers, helping her coordinate business with the record label, her concerts and social media. A proud graduate of the renowned Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts), Jose Ochoa — the former artistic director for ChiArts and current president of the National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen — said he recognized Victoria’s talent immediately.

“She’s a trained artist, singer, actor [and] dancer,” Ochoa said. “She’s able to do the things she’s done, because she’s put in the work.”

“The training was very intense, I’m so lucky I got to experience ChiArts and the training they have,” Victoria added of her high school years at ChiArts.

Ochoa said her performance at Grant Park was a wonderful preview of her talent.

“People were astounded,” Ochoa said. “And also so proud because she’s from Chicago, right? She’s from here.”

After high school, Victoria went on to earn degrees in musical performance and music business at Columbia College in Chicago, while also building a massive following on social media (She has over 2.7 million combined followers across Facebook , Instagram , TikTok and Twitter ).

Victoria also continues to write and co-write many of her songs, while also playing several instruments, dancing and singing in five different languages.

“I hope to be a role model for Mexican Americans all over,” Victoria said. “I hope they can identify with my music and what I sing about.”

Currently in Mexico City shooting a series of music videos, Victoria’s debut single will be released on Oct. 11.
