( WJET/WFXP ) — On Wednesday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Honda will be recalling around 1.7 million vehicles in the U.S. after finding that the steering gearbox assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly.

This incorrect assembly could cause excessive internal friction and lead to difficulty steering, increasing the risk of a crash. Warning signs of an affected vehicle include an abnormal noise and/or a momentary “sticky” feeling when turning the steering wheel while driving.

    The affected vehicles include:

    • 2023-2025 Acura Integra
    • 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S
    • 2022-2025 Honda Civic and Honda Civic Hatchback
    • 2025 Honda Civic Hatchback Hybrid
    • 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid
    • 2023-2025 Honda Civic Type-R
    • 2023-2025 CR-V
    • 2025 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell EV
    • 2023-2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid
    • 2023-2025 Honda HR-V

If your vehicle is affected by the recall, an authorized Honda dealer will replace the worm gear spring and either redistribute or add grease as necessary, free of charge. Owners will also receive a notification via mail, which is expected to be sent out on November 18, 2024.

To check if your car is affected by the recall, you can search the NHTSA website using your VIN or the Year, Make, and Model of your vehicle.
