SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — Click the video above to view highlights from the Lake View Chiefs’ homecoming win over the Brownfield Cubs on Oct. 11, 2024.

Lake View desperately needed a win to get its season back on track. Entering week seven, the Chiefs were 1-5 and losers of three straight road games. Two big reasons for Lake View’s struggles during its winless road trip included miscommunication and digging massive holes.

Head coach Hector Guevara emphasized the need to fix these issues going into week seven, and his team flipped the script. With a lively homecoming crowd in attendance, the Chiefs didn’t disappoint on Friday night.

Lake View set the tone from the get-go, surprising the entire stadium on the opening play with a successful fumble recovery on an onside kick attempt. On the first play from scrimmage, Chiefs quarterback Chris Alvizo found wide receiver Francisco Ramirez in the end zone for a quick touchdown to lead 7-0.

That was just the beginning. Lake View added six more points midway through the first quarter when running back Izaiah Rios walked into the end zone on a direct snap.

Lake View built a 19-0 lead near the end of the first quarter as Alvizo continued to shine, this time finding Braylon White in the back corner of the end zone for a touchdown.

Alvizo later threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown by Cubs defensive back Asiel Morin, cutting the lead to 13 at 19-6. This was Brownfield’s only score of the game.

Alvizo redeemed himself with a beautiful downfield throw to wide receiver Christopher Rodela, who took it to the house for a 25-6 lead.

All damage was done in the first half for Lake View. The Chiefs led 31-6 at halftime, with four different players scoring a touchdown. Hector Guevara’s squad needed to bounce back, and they did just that, closing non-district play in style with a 43-6 win.

The Chiefs head into their bye week with a 2-5 record and will begin district play versus the Pecos Eagles on Friday, Oct. 25.
