SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) The San Angelo Central Bobcats almost pulled off a miraculous comeback in the District 2-6A opener on the road against defending champion Midland Legacy on Friday.

After trailing 35-16 at the half, the Bobcats outscored the Rebels 20-7 the rest of the way in a 42-36 loss. However, three of Central’s touchdowns were erased by penalties, or the outcome might have been different.

The loss snapped Central’s three-game win streak, as the Bobcats fell to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in district. Legacy improved to 2-4 and 1-0.

The Bobcats return home this week when they host undefeated Odessa Permian (6-0, 1-0) at 7 p.m. Friday at San Angelo Stadium.

First-year Central head coach Mark Smith talked about last week’s loss when we caught up with him Monday.
