Temple, TX ( FOX 44 ) — For nearly a decade, Allison put together an Annual Holiday Gift Drive to raise money for McLane Children’s Hospital.

“She was raising money and doing a bunch of different things. This is her final project which she started just before she passed away. So, we as her friends, wanted to finish out this project for her,” says Allison’s friend, Laura Palmer.

To honor Allison’s memory, her favorite slogan quote “Don’t need easy, I just need possible” will be incorporated into the mural.

“The quote just is everything. It’s how Allison lived her life. Nothing came easy to Allison, obviously because of the disability that she had. But then nothing stopped her,” says Palmer.

Having lived with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy, Allison knew what it was like to be a child who was always in the hospital.

“It engages them during waiting time. It can decrease some of their nervousness or anxiety before a doctor’s appointment or treatment. A lot of times siblings come along. So, it can entertain them as well,” says the Child Life Manager at McLean Children’s Hospital, Tina Ulanowski.

Allison’s friends say she had a heart of gold and giving back to the community was always her goal despite being in and out of the hospital herself.

“When you met Allison, you didn’t see a disability. You didn’t see a difference. You just saw her as a person and I think that speaks volumes. She had such a giving heart and a way of listening,” says Ulanowski.

Before Allison’s passing, she expressed a desire for the 2023 Annual Holiday Gift Drive to benefit a mural being painted in the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Unit at McLane Children’s Hospital.
