TEMPLE, Texas ( FOX 44 ) – Spirit Halloween is bringing the Halloween spirit to Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center with a special party just for patients.

Since 2006, it has been Spirit of Children’s Halloween mission to use the excitement of the holiday and imagination to bring communities closer and help make a child’s medical journey less scary.

The annual event features games, crafts and free costumes for patients who might miss traditional Halloween festivities while receiving care at the hospital. Each year, the company’s Spirit of Children program conducts in-store fundraising campaigns with all the proceeds benefiting the local child life departments at hospitals across the country.

“It brings something, a positive memory to something. Nobody really wants to be in the hospital. So everybody’s here until we give them something positive, something normal. They know what to do with a Halloween costume. They didn’t know what to do with toys and activities. And so, this also helps them meet other patients and families that are here and just socialize sometimes rather than just staying in their rooms.”

In 2023, the organization raised around $46,000 for McLane Children’s to help patients and families cope with the stress and anxiety of their illnesses and injuries.
