MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – A woman from Weatherford was killed Tuesday night, after rolling over in an ATV accident in northern Midland.

According to MPD, at about 11:47 pm on Tuesday, October 15, crews responded to an ATV accident in northern Midland that left a Weatherford woman dead.

MPD said two people were traveling on a Polaris 1000 ATV four-wheeler on a utility access road, just south of 6600 Shawnee.

Preliminary investigation revealed the driver and rear passenger were traveling westbound when the road was split by a dirt berm and veered right. MPD said the driver was driving at an unsafe speed and was unable to navigate the turn and as a result, the ATV hit the berm, and the driver lost control. MPD added that both the driver and the passenger were thrown from the ATV as it began to roll, neither of whom were wearing a helmet.

The driver, 31-year-old Samuel Richard Merrill, was transported for injuries sustained in the rollover. 42-year-old Emelda Moreno came to rest about 100 feet west of the initial site of impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. MPD said no arrests took place and the investigation remains ongoing.
