The Holts Summit Police Department and multiple other agencies are investigating an early morning shooting in Holts Summit on Sunday.

According to a press release, at around 1 a.m. Sunday, a Holts Summit officer was on patrol when he heard multiple gunshots near the Holts Summit Lions Club at 116 E. Hillcrest Ave.

When the officer arrived, multiple people and cars fled the area. One car in the parking lot had multiple bullet holes in it.

While police were investigating the area, a resident nearby reported a Black male running through their backyard and had been shot in the foot. Multiple buildings in the area appeared to be damaged from gunfire, according to the release.

The release states that 11 handgun shell casings and approximately 36 rifle casings were found in the parking lot, along with bullets and small amounts of blood.

While officers were processing the scene, they were informed of another potentially related incident in Columbia on Highway 63. A man entered a Columbia hospital with a gunshot wound, according to the release.

The victim was contacted by a Holts Summit police officer at the hospital but did not give any information.

The Holts Summit Police Department is working with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Columbia Police Department to investigate this incident.
