Jefferson City man sentenced 16 years in federal armed bank robbery case

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City man who was convicted in federal court on Feb. 16 was sentenced to 16 years in prison on Thursday, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.

Tre Joseph Connor, 30, was found guilty of bank robbery, brandishing a gun during a violent crime, and one count of being a felon with a gun.

He was initially charged in Cole County with first-degree robbery, illegal use of a weapon, illegal gun possession and three counts of armed criminal action. The case was moved to federal court in April 2023.

According to previous reporting, Connor allegedly wore a ski mask and pulled out a gun on a River Region Credit Union employees on Jan. 19, 2023, and stole about $111,700. He was ordered to pay that money back in restitution.

According to previous reporting , investigators used security cameras to identify Connor, including Walmart security camera footage that apparently showed him purchase clothes and other items used in the robbery. According to previous reporting, he was arrested after Jefferson City SWAT served a search warrant in the 3800 block of Candlelight Drive.

Connor was on probation at the time of the robbery. He pleaded guilty to sharing private sexual images without consent on Jan. 19, 2021, and was sentenced to five years of probation with a seven-year suspended sentence, according to court records.
