    CALIFORNIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The California Board of Aldermen on Tuesday stated that it is looking for its next police chief.

This comes after Chief Daniel Hurt resigned from his position on Aug. 23 . City officials previously acknowledged a staffing shortage for its police department -- according to previous reporting – and aldermen said at Tuesday’s meeting that two reserve officers are currently working for the department.

Other police officers had left their positions. Ward 2 Alderman Mike Stanton said during the meeting that there had been a “miscommunication” between the department and board.

Some officers – during their exit interviews – claimed there was micromanagement and miscommunication, to which aldermen claimed they were unaware of those issues.

The Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office is assisting California until the city’s police department is staffed again .
