    COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Police say two people were found dead Thursday in a residential neighborhood in west Columbia.

Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jenny Hopper said foul play was not suspected in the deaths in the 4400 block of Cedar Falls Lane. There's no threat to the public, she said.

Police later wrote on its Facebook page that "Due to suspicious circumstances of the scene detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division responded.  This is an ongoing investigation."

Police did not provide an age range for the people found dead and did not say whether they were related. The discovery came when police were called for a welfare check, Hopper said. Neighbors say it was a man and a woman living in the house.

An ABC 17 News photographer at the scene saw at least a half-dozen CPD cruisers and a Columbia Fire Department truck. Investigators were at the scene until 8:58 pm. Officials took down the crime scene tape shortly after a van from the coroner's office took the body away.

Check back for updates to this developing story.
