    COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Rainbow House children's shelter in Columbia will close this week, according to an email from the organization's president.

"It is with a heavy heart that we announce a significant change at Rainbow House," reads the email, attributed to the Rainbow House Board of Directors and sent to ABC 17 News by board President Tyler Willy. "After a comprehensive review by the Board this summer, it was determined that certain critical decisions were made outside of Board of Directors-approved guidelines. As a result, the organization has been placed in a financially unsustainable position."

Rainbow House provides a stable environment for foster children and has operated since 1986, according to the organization's website . Rainbow House is on Towne Drive in northeast Columbia.

The site says the organization's referrals grew 32% from 2017 to 2020.

Shelter services will end Friday, Rainbow House says, but the organization's Child Advocacy Center services will continue.
