Chariton County Sheriff Erick Billups is in position to remain in office following the August Primary Election.

Billups defeated Marshall Meagher in the Republican Primary ballot with 64.58 percent of the vote, securing 999 votes to Meagher’s 548.

Other incumbents on the ballot also won uncontested races. Easter District Commissioner Jared Meyer, Coroner Nyle Bowyer, Assessor Darrin Gladbach, and Collector-Treasurer Darlene Shipp all won their races and have a clear path in the November General Election.

There are some key races that will be decided in November. Republican incumbent Terry Milford will face Democratic challenger Dan Price for the Western District Commissioner seat, while current Democrat incumbent Regina Emmerich is taking on Republican candidate Brenda Bennett for the Public Administrator position. Both candidates won uncontested races in the primary.

Chariton County reported 36.43 percent voter turnout for this primary election.
