The Marshall Municipal Utilities Board of Public Works approved motions for an asphalt repair project and lagoon sludge removal during its meeting on Thursday, August 15.

The board started by reviewing bids for driveway repair for the wastewater treatment plant. An overlay of 80 percent was done in 2008, and the asphalt has since started cracking with weeds growing through. Repairing the driveway will involve crack sealing, as well as milling an overlay on sections of the driveway. The total budget for the project is $10,000 for the crack seal, and $70,000 for the overlay ans repairs.

The board reviewed three bids, which were received on August 7. The board approved the low-bid from Frech Paving Company in the amount of $43,250 for the crack seal and overlay repairs.

The board considered a motion to request proposals for sludge removal in the Water Treatment Plant’s Lagoon #2. Water Treatment Superintendent Travis Boss said that the lagoon has become filled with residual particles like silt, lime, and sludge. This has caused operational issues and has reduced the available capacity to properly treat wastewater. After some discussion, the board approved a recommendation to request proposals to remove the accumulated sludge from the lagoon. The budget for this work is $145,000.
