STORMS DELAY INEVITABLE RETURN OF SUMMER HEAT

Saturday’s storms delayed for Central Missouri what areas to the west are now sending our way: one last blast of summer heat and humidity.

Virtually the entire KMMO listening area will go under a heat advisory Sunday from 1 p.m. until at least 8 p.m. Monday. The National Weather Service is calling for temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s through Wednesday, with the heat index reaching 105 in several areas. Forecasters remind everyone to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and check on relatives and neighbors.

Anyone going outside is reminded to wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, as well as limit strenuous activity to early morning or evening. Also, take action if you see symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. We have this link to a statewide map of cooling centers from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services .
