'This is a good job by John Mozeliak' KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman discusses Cardinals moves at Trade Deadline

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Heading into the Trade Deadline, in whatever order you prefer, the St. Louis Cardinals needs were pretty clear and straightforward: a starter, a reliever and a right-handed bat.

The Cardinals managed to achieve all three goals.

On Monday, the Cardinals acquired starter Erick Fedde and outfielder Tommy Pham in a three-team trade with the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers Monday that would see the Cardinals send Tommy Edman and prospect Oliver Gonzalez to the Dodgers.

Then right at the buzzer on Deadline Day Tuesday, the Cardinals made the expected move of trading away outfielder Dylan Carlson, shipping him out to the Tampa Bay Rays in a swap for reliever Shawn Armstrong.

KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman joined The Chris and Amy Show Wednesday to discuss the moves by the Cardinals and felt that Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak was excellent at the deadline.

"They get an 'A'," said Ackerman on The Chris and Amy Show . "John Mozeliak is the most criticized sports figure in this town and you have to say he did a very nice job here."

"This is a good job by John Mozeliak. There were people talking about trading Jordan Walker for Erick Fedde. Are you kidding me? No way. You can't give up on Walker that soon."

Ackerman says that he was impressed with how the Cardinals acquired Pham and Fedde, with the latter still having a year left on his contract and makes only $7.5 million in 2025.

"You had a task to not add salary and you can just see by the way (Mozeliak) made the deal in which they dealt Edman, who makes money and they were able to get Fedde, who makes money, but it offsets some of Fedde's salary and they didn't have to give up big prospects here. It's a really nice job."
