Blues tender offer sheets to D Phillip Broberg and F Dylan Holloway

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - August is usually a dead period in the NHL, but the St. Louis Blues have stirred up some noise Tuesday, announcing that they have submitted offer sheets to restricted free agents Dylan Holloway and Phillip Broberg.

Both Holloway and Broberg received two-year deals, with Holloway cap hit at $2,290,457 and Broberg annual cap hit at $4,580,917.

The Edmonton Oilers will have seven days to decide to match the deals for both Holloway and Broberg. Should they decline to match either, the Blues will send a second-round pick and a third-round pick to the Oilers as compensation.

Broberg, 23, has played 81 games for the Oilers over the last three seasons, registering two goals and 11 assists, after being selected in the first round (No. 8 overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft. Despite being only 23, Broberg has quite a bit of playoff experience, playing in 20 career playoff games for Edmonton, including 10 games during their run to the 2024 Stanley Cup Final in which he posted two goals and an assist.

Holloway, 22, has participated in 89 games for the Oilers since entering the league in 2022-23 as a former first-round pick (No. 14 overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft. He tallied nine goals and nine assists during those two seasons. Like Broberg, Holloway has seen plenty of experience in the playoffs with the Oilers, 26 career playoff games, including 25 during Edmonton’s journey to the 2024 Stanley Cup Final in which he contributed five goals and two assists.

The Oilers are currently over the cap at the moment according to Puckpedia, and barring placing forward Evander Kane on the long-term injured reserve(LTIR) to start next season, it's probably highly unlikely the Oilers will match both cap hits.
