Armed woman shot, killed herself in officer-involved shooting near Laclede Park

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - An armed female who is believed to be connected to a Friday morning shooting at a White Castle in Bellefontaine Neighbors shot and killed herself in an officer-involved shooting in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood, right near Laclede Park.

According to St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, a masked individual walked inside at a White Castle in Bellefontaine Neighbors Friday morning, shot a cook inside the restaurant then drove off. That cook is in stable, but critical condition.

Police say officers were able to locate a vehicle tied to the shooting through a license plate reader and when they tried to stop the car, it fled.

Officers were eventually able to find the car parked at West Iowa Avenue and Gasconade Street in the Mount Pleasant Neighborhood and saw a female who was armed with a firearm walk away from it.

Officers gave the female verbal commands, but she did not comply.

Two officers discharging their weapons and struck her on the lower half og her body. Then, the female placed the firearm to her chin and discharged it.

Additional officers arrived on the scene and rendered first aid until EMS arrival. The female died at the scene.

No officers were injured from the incident.

Police did not release the name of the female and could not say if she brandished the firearm.

The Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department is investigating the shooting at the White Castle. Investigators have not yet disclosed if the suspect in the White Castle shooting was the woman who was shot.

Force Investigative Unit has taken over the investigation. Medical investigation is needed before the shooting can be determined as a suicide.
