ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals organization could look a lot different in the next couple months.

Amidst another disappointing baseball season for the Cardinals that will all but likely see the Cardinals miss the playoffs for the fifth time in the last nine season, some significant changes within the organization is seemingly needed.

President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak hinted to KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman on 'Sports On A Sunday Morning' (beginning at the 6:40 mark in the player above) that there could some organizational changes when he discussed the imminent retirement of longtime Cardinals Director of Player Development Gary LaRocque .

"There's going to be some changes." said Mozeliak. "I think, as great of a job Gary (LaRocque) did, I think it will be a nice opportunity to welcome some change. I certainly look forward to the next few months to see where we end up and what's that leadership looks like."

Mozeliak hinted that the Cardinals could look for help outside the organization, saying that they have informally poked around and taken notes on potential external candidates for roles within the organization when asked by Ackerman if they could look at candidates who are working for teams that are currently being innovative and doing things right.

"To give you the cliff notes version, that's already been done. Now it's about beginning the process of the interviewing and getting that moving," said Mozeliak. "Hopefully, within the next couple months, we have leadership in place and we can just keep moving forward."

Mozeliak says that he does feel, amidst another disappointing season, that change within the organization is necessary.

"We are not where we need to be and we need to get back there," said Mozeliak.

Bernie Miklasz, longtime St. Louis sports commentator, stressed the importance for organizational changes when it comes to the Cardinals.

"The Cardinals model, which was great for so long, did get old, outdated, and stagnant," said Miklasz. "I think maybe they were a little too slow to make changes and I'm happy they are going to make changes."

"I written this and said this, I saw Bill Dewitt Jr. basically restore the greatness of this franchise when he took over and I think he's got a part two in him. I hope so because if they don't make enough changes, the fans that have become disillusioned that's not going to get much better. I think there needs to be a major overhaul."

Surely they’re not putting Mozaliak in charge of these so called “potential changes.”That’s like putting the inept heels up Harris in charge of border security. Please show us you’re smarter and more serious than THAT!!
