JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMOX) - The skies over Jefferson City, Missouri will be filled with history this weekend.

The annual Show Me State Air Show is set to take place this weekend and this year, the air show will honor the 80th anniversary of the invasion of Normandy.

Director Penny Smith says education is an important part of the annual event.

"We try to involve all the schools and for the students, learning the history that comes with the air show," said Smith to KMOX. "This year, it's World War II, next year it's Vietnam War. There's always a piece of history in what we do."

Among World War II aircrafts that will be on hand is the one and only C-47 known as "That's All Brother".

"It was actually the very aircraft that flew on D-Day that led the airborne division, dropping thousands of paratroopers during that time," said Smith.

The show takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Jefferson City Memorial Airport. Smith encourages attendees to get there early if you wanna catch the aerial displays at 11 a.m.

Admission is five dollars but kids 10-years-old and under get in free by donating two cans of food or hygiene products to veterans.
