    Maplewood firefighter injured in Shrewsbury fire at 3-story apartment

    ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - One firefighter was injured in a late-Monday night fire at a three-story apartment in Shrewsbury.

    According to the Maplewood Fire Department, Maplewood Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire overnight at a three-story apartment complex located in the 7100 block of Murdoch. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a significant fire with heavy smoke filling multiple units.

    According to the department, fire crews from Maplewood were able to successfully execute a rescue operation from the second floor, saving a young child and an adult who were trapped in a smoke-filled apartment.

    However, one Maplewood firefighter had to be transported to a local medical facility following the rescue. The firefighter is currently in stable condition in the cardiac intensive care unit.
