Zhang Youxia beaming, while the embarrassed Sullivan looked on. According to reports, Sullivan did reply but opted for a timid approach saying “It is rare that we have the opportunity to have this kind of exchange” and pivoted to the need for discourse and cited the need for “responsibly managing U.S.-China relations.” The ensuing chat with Xi was noted to be amiable and light-hearted with the Chinese leader appearing conciliatory. He explained that he told Sullivan that he hoped the two superpowers would “find the right way for two major countries to get along with each other.” “As two major countries, China and the <a href="https://knewz.com/tag/united-states/" rel="nofollow"> United States </a> should be responsible for history, for the people, and for the world, and should be a source of stability for world peace and a propeller for common development,” he said. Sullivan, in turn, would address reporters before leaving the country’s capital, <a href="https://knewz.com/tag/beijing/" rel="nofollow"> Beijing </a> , saying: “We believe that competition with China does not have to lead to conflict or confrontation.
