Ice sworn in with fire department
VINCENNES — Knox County native Chris Ice was sworn in as a member of the Vincennes Fire Department at Monday’s Board of Works and Public Safety meeting Monday. Ice said starting out on the job, he will be doing basic duties for the city’s department — anything from fire rescues to EMS runs and more. He has worked at Vincennes Township Fire Department since 2021.
DECKER SCHOOL FIRE
Cleanup continues by crews at the location of the old Decker School in southern Knox County Indiana after an extensive fire Tuesday evening. The Indiana State Fire Marshalls Office has been called in to assist local fire officials in determining the cause. The former school most recently had been used as a sawmill. The gymnasium, which housed the sawmill equipment, was able to be saved by firefighters and is the only part of the structure not being demolished. A firm damage assessment has not been released.

Wheatland Man Arrested for OWI This Morning
Knox County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Wheatland man this morning after finding him allegedly driving recklessly on Sixth Street in Vincennes. Officers stopped the vehicle driven by 20 year-old Joshua Hertaus (HERT-us). A further investigation found Hertaus driving with intoxicated. He is also charged with minor consumption, and reckless driving. He was booked into the Knox County Jail on four-thousand dollars bond.
