Blood Shortage Increases Call for Blood Donors
The Knox County Health Department says it has been notified by Versiti Blood Center of Indiana that the state now has an emergency blood shortage. With less than a day’s supply of available blood, communities throughout the state face a potential crisis as hospitals do not have the blood needed to treat patients.

WIN Energy REMC Community Trust Awards Over $16,000 in Grants to Local Organizations
The WIN Energy REMC Community Trust recently presented four Operation Round Up Program grants totaling over $16,000 to four area organizations. The Hymera Community Library in Sullivan County received over $4,100 to replace carpet in the library. Knox County Emergency Management received $2,500 to purchase cots for their emergency shelter.
GEMTRON STRIKE CONTINUES
Reports out of Knox County Indiana say that there has been no movement in the strike at Gemtron in Vincennes. Members of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades went on strike in May alledging that the company was attempting to lower or remove pension and other benefits for workers and they have not negotiated in good faith. In fact, there have been no new talks between the two sides and workers are continuing to walk the picket line outside of the production plant. The company has issued no comment.
County posted 3.8% May jobless rate
VINCENNES — Knox County's May unemployment rate increased from 3.1% in April to 3.8% in May, and is .6% higher than the 3.3% May 2023 jobless rate. Indiana Workforce Development's monthly report released Wednesday shows the county's labor force decreased from 17,835 in May 2023 to 17,513 in April, but increased to 17,571 in May. Comparatively, 562 residents were looking for jobs in May 2023, 551 seeking work in April this year and 665 last month.
