Will Tennessee football make College Football Playoff? Where Vols are in latest projections

Tennessee football won against Florida, but it hurt its College Football Playoff standing in the overtime clunker.

The Vols are largely viewed on the outside looking in at the CFP based on the projections following their 23-17 win against Florida . No. 10 Tennessee (5-1, 2-1 SEC) plays No. 7 Alabama (5-1, 2-1) on Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC) at Neyland Stadium with a chance to boost its standing.

ESPN: Out

ESPN's Mark Schlabach dropped Tennessee from his projections. He had tabbed UT as a No. 10 seed with a first-round game at No. 7 Penn State entering the Florida game.

CBS Sports: Out

CBS Sports' Jerry Palm does not have Tennessee in the 12-team field. He projects the Vols will play SMU in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2.

The Athletic: Out

The Athletic's Stewart Mandel projects the Vols will be one of the final teams out of the field. He had UT as the No. 7 seed playing at No. 10 Notre Dame in the first round before the Florida game.

On3: Out

On3's Andy Staples has Tennessee missing the CFP but lists it as a potential at-large team.

Sporting News: Out

Sporting News' Bill Bender removed Tennessee from his picks. Before the Florida game, Bender had UT the No. 11 seed against No. 6 seed Georgia in Athens, where the teams will play in the regular season in November.
