    Tuesday proclaimed ‘University of Tennessee Baseball Day’ in Knox County

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — As Knoxville prepares to host a championship parade , Tuesday has been proclaimed “University of Tennessee Baseball Day” in Knox County by Mayor Glenn Jacobs.

    Jacobs shared the announcement on social media ahead of the parade scheduled to march down Gay Street Tuesday evening.

    The proclamation recognized several individual and team achievements from the historic season, including Dylan Dreiling becoming the first player in NCAA history to hit a home run in all three games in the finals and Tennessee being the first team in history to have five players with at least 20 home runs in a season.

    Tennessee became the first team since 1989 to win 60 games and capture the national title with a dramatic 6-5 win in game three of the College World Series Finals against Texas A&M on Monday.

    A championship parade that will march down Gay Street to Wall Avenue is scheduled to begin around 6:15 p.m. It will be followed by a celebration in Market Square.
