The city shared that on Thursday, “southbound travelers should utilize detours at Summit Hill Drive to Hill Avenue to James White Parkway, as well as Church Avenue to Howard Baker Drive to Hill Avenue to James White Parkway. Northbound travelers on Chapman Highway should take Moody Avenue to James White Parkway.”

World’s Fair Park Drive between Clinch and Grand avenues will be closed to vehicular traffic between 2 and 11 p.m. on Thursday. Clinch Avenue between Henley and 11th streets will also be closed.

The Gay Street Bridge has been closed since last week after a routine inspection by the Tennessee Department of Transportation resulted in the discovery of a support component in need of repair. The city added that once the state inspection is completed, repairs will begin .

    Parking

The city advised drivers that if they are attending the Festival on the 4th, to “be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to detour around the bridge closures and get parked downtown.” Parking is also free at city-owned garages on Thursday.
