Tennessee Vols predicted to land key football recruit before the end of the weekend

The Tennessee Vols are the predicted landing spot for a key four-star recruit that's set to announce his commitment this weekend.

247Sports' Anna Adams has the Vols landing a commitment from 2025 four-star linebacker Christian Gass on Saturday (July 20).

Gass, 6-foot-3/215 lbs from Covington, GA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 22 linebacker in the nation and the No. 31 player in the state of Georgia.

Tennessee, Georgia, and USC are the three programs that are still in the mix for the talented four-star recruit.

Part of the reason Gass has the Vols so high on his list is because of Tennessee's willingness to let him play edge and/or inside linebacker at the next level.

"My biggest thing was, when I went up there, I wanted to know if I was going to play edge or inside 'backer, they'll let me do both," said Gass to 247Sports . "If they were just going to let me play edge, they probably wouldn't have been in my top three. I want to be a versatile player, so that's big for me to go up there and see I could play both positions."

This sounds like a situation where Tennessee will let Gass naturally find his right position once he arrives in Knoxville -- it seems unlikely that he'll be able to seamlessly flip between inside linebacker and edge rusher in the SEC.

Tennessee currently has 17 players committed to its 2025 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 12 in the nation. With several big targets remaining on the board, including five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr, the Vols have a chance to climb into the top 10 before the end of the recruiting cycle.
