KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — It won’t be long until class is back in session at Knox County Schools. Principals and Assistant Principals in Knox County attended the annual Principal Institute Monday morning at Bearden High School.

Knox County Schools Superintendent Jon Rysewyk says the institute is a celebration.

“We come into every year that you’re going to have to be flexible. You’re going to have to be innovative. Last year our teachers and staff really stepped up to do that. What we’re seeing-early from test scores and how students achieved, looks like another year where we are going to see some increases,” said Rysewyk.

“Just talking about what are plans are for the year. What our goals are for the year and just celebrating where we are the accomplishments we had from last year.”

Jessica Holman, Principal of Green Magnet Stem Academy, believes this event helps prepare school leaders for the upcoming year.

“I’m eager to learn about our sacred 60 how we are going to be in the classrooms a lot more this school year. I’m looking forward on continuing the work on the instructional practice guides that have been developed and also for strengthening my administration teams,” said Holman.

Karns High School Principal Laicee Hatfield hopes to implement what she learns during this service to benefit students and their families.

“I want students to feel excited, I want students to feel welcomed, I wants parents to feel excited and feel good sending their students to Karns,” Hatfield said.

Knox County students return to class on August 8.
