Latest updated on 5-star OL Josh Petty makes it even more pivotal that Tennessee lands 5-star OL David Sanders Jr in August

The Tennessee Vols are hoping to land 2025 five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr next month when he announces his commitment on August 17.

Sanders, 6-foot-6/290 lbs from Charlotte, NC, is rated as the No. 1 offensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class.

Tennessee, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Georgia are the programs still in the mix for Sanders, though it appears that Tennessee and Nebraska, by virtue of getting Sanders' final two visits, are the top two programs in this battle.

Losing Sanders to Nebraska would be a massive blow for the Vols -- especially after all of the time and energy they've put into Sanders' recruitment.

Missing on Sanders would also likely mean that Tennessee misses on their top two offensive line targets.

That's because 2025 five-star offensive lineman Josh Petty, a recruit that grew up cheering for the Vols , appears to be focused on Florida State, Georgia Tech, and Ohio State as he nears his decision.

Tennessee was included in Petty's top six earlier this offseason, but it's those three schools, according to On3's Chad Simmons , that have the momentum ahead of the five-star offensive lineman's commitment announcement on August 12.

The Vols have spent a lot of time on recruiting Sanders and Petty. Missing on both wouldn't necessarily be a setback for the program -- sometimes you just have bad luck in recruiting and/or the timing is bad -- but it would certainly be a mood killer on Rocky Top.
