    Man sentenced in fatal Magnolia Ave. drag racing crash

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Tra’Shawn Glass, one of two people indicted in a January 2023 drag racing crash on Magnolia Avenue that left one person dead and two children injured, has been sentenced.

    Glass pleaded guilty in a “blind plea,” to one count of vehicular homicide by drag racing and two counts of reckless aggravated assault in April. He was sentenced on Friday to six years on the vehicular homicide count as well as four years for each aggravated assault count, according to the Knox County District Attorney’s office.

    The DA’s office released to 6 News that Glass was sentenced to serve the sentence in the Tennessee Department of Correction and was denied probation. He was given credit for the 531 days he was detained before his trial.

    On January 17, 2023 , two Dodge Charges were drag racing when they ran a red light at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Milligan Street and crashed into a Ford Explorer, Knoxville police said at the time. The driver of the car, Michael Williams , 65, was killed, and a 5- and 11-year-old were critically injured. One of the vehicles crashed into the Safe Haven House, a two-story home over a block away from where the crash happened .

    A month after the crash , the children’s family told 6 News that they had been released from the hospital and were recovering well.

    Glass and another individual, Trinity Clark , were indicted in August 2023. Clark’s trial is set to begin on September 16.
