Man's body found in a pond in W. Wichita

A man’s body was found on the west side of Wichita in a pond located in a neighborhood to the southwest of Maize Road & Maple.

A resident taking a walk saw the body in the water and called 911 at about 9:15 a.m. Thursday; the pond is located behind some homes at Taft & Stoney Point.

The pond is also just south of Wichita Firehouse 17, and fire crews arrived quickly and found the clothed victim. Investigators believe the victim was in his 20s or 30s.

“Doesn’t appear to be any type of trauma that we can see right now,” said police Lt. Joe Kennedy.

There were no personal belongings left by the pond.

An autopsy will be performed by the coroner's office to determine cause-of-death.
