Former Marion police chief in court over newspaper raid

Gideon Cody, the former Marion Police Chief, made his first court appearance in Marion County on Monday.

Cody is accused of tampering with the judicial process after leading raids on the Marion County Record's newsroom, the publisher's home, and a city council member's residence last year. Prosecutors accuse Cody of ordering Kari Newell to destroy text conversations following the raid on the Marion County Record office.

The Marion County record is working on getting more information from the city through the Kansas Open Records Act.
