Child dies in Fort Smith vehicle-pedestrian accident

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Fort Smith police continue their response to a vehicle-pedestrian accident that occurred on Kelley Highway and 44th Street on Oct. 11.

A child, whose age is yet to be determined, has died as a result of the accident, according to a news release.

The accident occurred around 5:09 p.m., according to Fort Smith Police. The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities.

The police department will provide more information once next of kin have been notified.

Accident reconstruction is currently underway, and Kelley Highway remains closed from North Albert Pike Avenue to 50th Street until the scene is clear.
