    Talihina man gets more than five years in prison for drug charge

    MUSKOGEE, Okla. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Talihina man was sentenced on Oct. 15 to more than five years in prison without parole for a drug possession charge.

    According to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office Eastern District of Oklahoma, Michael John Jones, 41, was sentenced for one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

    The release says the charges arose from an investigation by the Choctaw Nation Lighthouse Police and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

    On Feb. 6, Jones pleaded guilty to the charge. Investigators said on Jan. 24, 2023, law enforcement counducting a routine traffic stop found Jones driving on a suspended liscence while headed north on Highway 63 west of Talihina.

    Police searched Jones and found multiple plastic baggies containing more than 124 grams of methamphetamine intended for distribution.
