PEA RIDGE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Pea Ridge Police Department (PRPD) has announced a change to the school zone speed limit on Weston Street, effective Nov. 4.

The speed limit will be lowered from 25 miles per hour (mph) to 15 mph during times when the lights are flashing or when children are present, according to a news release.

“Ensuring the safety of our children is our top priority,” Police Chief Lynn Hahn said. “By reducing the speed limit in this school zone, we hope to create a safer environment for students as they travel to and from school.”

The new speed limit was established by City Ordinance 536, which was approved during a City Council meeting on Sept. 17.

    In the release, PRPD stated:

The new speed limit will be clearly marked with updated signage. We urge all drivers to adhere to the new speed limit and remain vigilant in school zones.
