JANE, Mo. (KNWA/KFTA) — On Thursday, Sheep Dog Impact Assistance will send a response team to Sulphur, Oklahoma, to those affected by the recent tornado.

An EF-3 tornado ripped through the town Saturday night, destroying many of the downtown businesses.

“A lot of the members that are going to have quite a bit of experience with disaster recovery efforts,” said Sgt. Maj. Lance Nutt, CEO and founder of Sheep Dog Impact Assistance.

The team will be in Oklahoma for five to six days to help families and businesses impacted.

“The focus is chainsaw work. Clearing debris off of roads, driveways, homes,” said Nutt.

According to Nutt, the team is prepared to handle stressful situations.

“These men and women having served in the military or as first responders…they have been trained and prepared and understand chaotic situations,” said Nutt.

Nutt says it’s important to spread hope for those who have lost everything.

“It’s about giving people hope. Enabling the ones that have been impacted the most to appreciate that things are going to get better, that it takes time. But you got people who care about you,” said Nutt.

Nutt also says this isn’t just about healing those impacted in disaster areas. It’s also about healing the members of the Sheep Dog Impact Assistance.

“After you leave the service, you need that continued opportunity to feel like you still have a purpose. You still have belonging, and it doesn’t matter that you no longer wear a uniform or a badge,” said Nutt.

According to Nutt, the organization has responded to 172 disasters.
