Driving Academy of NWA talks teen driving risks ahead of ‘100 Deadliest Days’

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Summer break is in the middle of the “ 100 Deadliest Days ,” a time when many high schoolers will think about getting their driver’s license.

The Driving Academy of NWA provides classes for teens, making sure they’re fully prepared for northwest Arkansas’ roads.

Kimma Harper, president of the Driving Academy, says it’s crucial that teens have a full year of practice before getting their license so they have a better understanding of the types of weather and holiday traffic seasons.

“Parents, please don’t let your teenager drive solo until they’ve had that full year of practice with you. I think they ought to have good training as well because there’s no way a parent’s going to remember everything that a child needs to be told, a teenager needs to be told,” Harper said.

Harper says the academy’s program is the most comprehensive in Northwest Arkansas, providing 30 hours of in-class instruction and a minimum of six hours of driving lessons for kids ages 14 to 18.
