    Fayetteville man tied to Washington County Fair shooting sentenced to 60 years in prison

    FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Fayetteville man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison in connection with two Fayetteville shootings, one at the Washington County Fair in 2022 and another at a convenience store in 2023.

    Jaylin Caston, 18, was a minor when he was arrested in connection with both shootings.

    Caston was denied a juvenile transfer and sentenced on July 9. In addition to the 60-year sentence, he also received 15 years suspended.

    2022 Washington County Fair shooting

    Caston was arrested at the age of 16 after a shooting at the Washington County Fair on August 26, 2022.

    Fayetteville police said around 10:30 p.m., they responded to the fairgrounds after a report that shots had been fired.

    A male juvenile was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

    Reflecting on a tragic night at Washington Co. Fair

    On August 28, 2022, FPD said they arrested a juvenile in connection with the shooting. He was charged with aggravated assault, first and second-degree battery, aggravated riot, engaging in violent criminal activity, second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree criminal mischief.

    Washington County Senior Deputy Denis Dean said they could not disclose Caston as the shooter in the Washington County Fair case when it was in juvenile court.

    2023 Flash Market shooting

    Caston was also arrested after a shooting at the Flash Market convenience store on August 13, 2023, on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

    He was charged as an adult despite being 17 at the time of the arrest and was charged with two counts of terroristic act, three counts of first-degree battery, four counts of first-degree criminal mischief, one count of aggravated assault and one count of engaging in violent group activity.

    A police report says that officers responded to the shooting and found multiple witnesses, victims, damaged property and around 40 shell casings. All of the victims had non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at the scene.

    Two more arrests made in Fayetteville Flash Market shooting

    Caston was arrested on August 29, 2023, and was the second person arrested in connection with the shooting.

    Three others have since been arrested in connection with the shooting, Jaylon Powell, Trevarius Alexander and an unnamed juvenile.

    Powell has a plea hearing set for December 9 and Alexander’s trial date has been set for November 25.
