Rogers Fire Department plans to build new Station #4

ROGERS. Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Rogers City Council unanimously approved plans to build a new Fire Station #4.

Many of the fire stations in town are decades old and in need of renovations, and city officials said, “Fire Station #4 had to grow.”

John Vanatta is the Deputy Chief at Rogers Fire Department.

“Station #4 on Olive Street has been around for 30-plus years, and it’s time to build a new one for the next 30 years and more. We’re excited about it. The building that’s there already is pretty cramped. It’s the busiest station that we have right now,” said Vanatta.

Peter Masonis is the Public Relations Manager for the city of Rogers.

“Every year when I look at the statistics, Station #4 always has the highest call numbers. It’s going to be a huge plus for the Rogers Fire Department because Station #4 is one of the busier fire departments. it’s very good for a new station to be put there to replace the old one. It’s going to be bigger and handle more volume of calls,” said Masonis.

The city council approved $750,000 to go toward the project. The money is going toward the design of the building, and it doesn’t include operational funds. The new building will have a four-bay station with a drive-thru garage. It will include room for three to four crews, with separate bedrooms and separate restrooms. Which is something that the older fire stations just don’t have.

“To build a larger station on that spot will enable us to put more vehicles and crews in the same house. This will help Station #4 respond, and have a good response time. Right now, it might not get a bunch of people in it, but down the road, five to ten years from now, we certainly anticipate it would probably have another crew in that house,” said Vanatta.
